UPDATE : 20 female inmates stage protest on Welikada prison roof

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The protest launched by 1o female inmates on top of the Welikada prison roof still continues and has been joined by another 20 women. The protest began at around 8 this morning (August 13). When inquired Prison’s Media Spokesperson, Thushara Upuldeniya stated that he cannot comment on the matter without obtaining approval from the Ministry. The Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms is yet to issue an official statement on the protest. A high ranking official of the Ministry said the protest was staged to oppose certain reforms made by the Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms in the recent past.
