COLOMBO (News 1st) – Addressing a media briefing in Gampaha today (August 11), Provincial Councillor Mahinda Jayasinghe commented on the purchase of 125 chairs, each at a cost of Rs. 640,000, for the Western Provincial Council which convenes just twice a month.
He stated that they are planning to buy these chairs for the newly opened Provincial Council building. He added that there are only 104 members but the plan is to get down 125 chars.
So they are planning to spend Rs. 80 Million for the councillors to place their bottoms on for a council which convenes just twice a month said Provincial Councillor Mahinda Jayasinghe.
Governor of the Western Province, Hemakumara Nanayakkara said that the purchase of the 125 chairs have been temporarily halted and a broad investigation will be conducted into the matter.
