M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena Memorial and Town Hall in Kathale declared open

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena Memorial and Town Hall in Kanthale were declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena. The construction of the memorial cost Rs. 170 Million. President Sirisena also declared open nine water filtration systems constructed under the program to provide clean drinking water to Kidney patients. Speaking at the event President Maithripala Sirisena said, people who live in this area are not those who live in luxury, most of them spend all their life in paddy fields in the scorching Heat. He noted that they launched this as a separate project in 2016 with an allocation of Rs. 5 Billion and they have almost completed the program in the Trincomalee district. The president added that they have also launched a project on the main Wewa's in the country and when they inaugurated the Pibidemu Polonnaruwa project, he thought they also need to include the Trincomalee district in this development drive. He said with the monsoon rainfall expected in September, he believes they can reap the benefits of the construction of the Moragahakanda Reservoir.
