UPDATE : 32 injured in Panaliya Train collision

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The number of those injured in a collision between two trains in the Panaliya area between Rambukkana and Polgahawela on the Upcountry Railway Line has risen to 32. According to Police Media Spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the injured passengers have been admitted to the Kurunegala, Polgahawela, Rambukkana and Kegalle hospitals. 7 people are receiving in-house treatment at the Kurunegala Hospital, 10 people at the Polgahawela Hospital and 3 people are receiving treatment at the Kegalle Hospital. Meanwhile, the Railway Control Room said it has cancelled the night mail train plying from Colombo to Badulla tonight, owing to the collision. An official of the Department of Railways said a power set bound to Rambukkana had collided onto the rear end of the office train plying from Colombo to Kandy. According to reports, the office train was stationary due to the absence of signals.
