Suspect dies while in remand custody at the Kalutara prison

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An individual who was in remand custody at the Kalutara prison, for stealing a gold chain has died. The suspect had been arrested by the Panadura South Police. The deceased has been identified as a 37-year-old resident of Subasaadana Mawatha, Millaniya and according to the Police, the suspect has been a heroin addict. The suspects' wife alleges that her husband who was arrested on the July 29th died following police assaults. During an inquiry made by News 1st, the police said the body is currently lying at the Kaluthara Nagoda hospital. Police noted that the cause of death will be revealed following the post-mortem examination due to be conducted today.
