Excise tax imposed on cigarettes increased

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Finance has increased the excise tax imposed on cigarettes by Rs. 3.80 with effect from midnight yesterday (July 31).
Thereby the selling price of a cigarette has increased by Rs 5.
This means that the Cigarettes which were earlier priced at Rs 50 will now be sold at Rs. 55 while cigarettes priced at Rs. 55 will now be sold at Rs 60.
