Accident on Anuradhapura-Puttlam road injures 10

COLOMBO (News 1st) – 10 people were seriously injured in a motor accident that took place at the 27th Mile Post area in Pahala Maragahawewa area along the Anuradhapura – Puttalam main road.

The accident was a head-on collision between a Sri Lanka Army bus traveling from Jaffna and Kalpitiya and a van traveling from Colombo to Jaffna.

A group of tourists traveling to Jaffna were inside the van at the time of the accident.

The injured were immediately rushed to the Nochchiyagama Regional Hospital and eight of them who were in serious condition were transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. According to a Hospital Spokesperson, two of the victims were in critical condition.

The Nochchiyagama Police arrested the driver of the Sri Lanka Army Bus and he is to be produced before the Thambuttegama Magistrates Court.
