COLOMBO (News 1st) – A warrant has been re-issued by the Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne for the arrest of the Former Ambassador to the United States of America, Jaliya Wickremesuriya.

The Magistrate once again issued warrants for the arrest of Jaliya Wickremesuriya’s wife and relative who signed for his bail application. Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne issued the order after considering the request made by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division.

Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to the United States Wickramasuriya has been charged with criminal misappropriation of 132,000 USD during his tenure as the ambassador. Wickramasuriya, who was arrested earlier on charges of theft, left the country for treatment after obtaining bail from the High Court.

The verdict on the request made by the investigating officers to confiscate the property placed as bonds for his overseas travels will be made on the 27th of next month.
