Prime Minister explains Gamperaliya to the public

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Addressing an event in Batticaloa on Sunday (July 29th), Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasised the importance and significance of the government's "Gamperaliya" project. According to the PM, Gamperaliya is not one single massive development project, it is instead a collection to around 15,000 minor projects. He noted that the projects are being selected by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Finance. Once a project has been identified the Secretary to the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, which is directly under the PM, informs the necessary District and Divisional secretaries to implement the project. PM Ranil Wickremesinghe explained at a team of Ministers, which includes the likes of Sagala Rathnayake, Eran Wickramaratne, J.C. Alawathuwala and Niroshan Perera, are then tasked with reviewing these projects and ensuring that the projects are being implemented in a timely manner. The premier went onto note that several parliamentarians could also be used from time to time to monitor the progress of such projects.
