Sri Lankan national becomes first female CEO of Macquarie Group of Australia

Macquarie Group, Australia's biggest investment bank appointed its first female CEO,  a Sri Lankan national  Shemara Wikramanayake, that would be replacing Nicholas Moore, who will end his 10-year tenure as Managing Director and CEO. Joining the company in 1987 Wickremanayake had worked for this group in six countries and across several business lines. Born in England in the year 1961, she was educated both in Britain and Sri Lanka. Shemara who is a graduate of the University of New South Wales has degrees in both commerce and law. She spent her early years as a corporate lawyer before joining the Macquarie group. Upon joining the Macquarie group, she worked her way through a number of sectors before becoming the head of the Macquarie Asset Management in 2008 and later going on to chair the Macquarie Group foundation in the year 2013.
