Kidney patients face shortage of medication to purify blood

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Kidney patients in several areas are facing difficulties due to a shortage of  3 types of medicine used in the Kidney dialysis process or in the purification of their blood. Director of Non-Communicable Disease Control at the Ministry of Health Dr. Lal Panapitya noted that the drugs in question are being imported by one company and that the shortage has been caused by a delayed shipment. Dr. Panapitiya noted that they are taking steps to rectify the issue through the state pharmaceutical corporation. When News 1st spoke to the Managing Director of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation Dr. Mohamed Hashim Mohamed Rumie, he noted that the company in question had agreed to deliver the shipment by air.
