Reuters - Japan's Princess Mako, the eldest granddaughter of Emperor Akihito, visited the "Christ the Redeemer" statue in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday (July 18). Princess Mako, in her fourth official trip abroad, will attend ceremonies marking the 110th anniversary of the first arrival of Japanese immigrants in Brazil, during a two-week visit. She plans to visit 14 cities in five states and meet with local people of Japanese descent and will return home on July 31. In February this year, Japan's Princess Mako announced she would postpone her wedding to commoner Kei Komuro to 2020 until after her grandfather Emperor Akihito abdicates next year.
