COLOMBO (News 1st) - A heated situation arose following a meeting between the ETI depositors and the Board of Directors at the ETI Head Office premises. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the financial crisis faced by ETI with regard to its depositors. A number of investors came forward to repay the depositors and among them was Jaya Sudhir Jayaram - who came forward as an investment partner. Who is Jaya Sudhir Jayaram? Jayaram was detained by customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle foreign currency out of Sri Lanka. According to the newspapers which exposed the incident, Lycamobile UK was preparing to purchase EAP and Jaya Sudhir Jayaram had arrived in the country to operate as the middleman in the deal. Customs let go of Jayaram and his son, on the promise that they would return to the country in November 2017 to facilitate the investigations that are taking place over the matter. However, Jayaram never appeared for the investigation. In complete contrast, three people were arrested at the BIA yesterday (July 13) for attempting to smuggle foreign currency worth Rs. 48 Million. They were produced before the Negombo Magistrates Court and remanded.

In such a backdrop, who is making attempts to protect Jaya Sudhir Jayaram?

Though it was said that US$ 75 Million will be brought as investments to ETI, only US$ 32 Million have reached the country thus far.
