Caught on Tape : Brutal murder of Municipal Councilor Kirubanandan

COLOMBO (News 1st) - No arrests have been made as yet in connection with the two shootings which took place in the Colombo Municipality within the past two days. Colombo Municipal Councillor Krishnapillai Kirubanandan was one the victims killed in a shooting. The Municipal Councillor, known commonly as Krishna was shot and killed down Sea Street around 7.45 AM yesterday (July 09). Four CCTV cameras had captured the tragic incident. The CCTV footage clearly shows the shooter entering Krishnapillai Kirubanandan's shop as a customer and shooting the victim. An eyewitness speaking to the media stated that at around 7.45 a person came in asking for a packet of Milo and the cashier said it was Rs. 50, the person took his wallet out and left it on the counter. He added that the suspect drew a gun out of another pocket and shot three times. The witness stated that the suspect was fluent in Tamil. Krishnapillai Kirubanandan's remains were placed at his residence in Jinthupitiya Junction, Kochchikade this afternoon for the public to pay their respects. The victim contested the recently held Local Government Election under the independent group, Navodaya People's Front. According to the Police Media Spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara the victim has two cases against him relating to marijuana and he was currently on bail. He added that the investigators suspect the motive behind the murder was over a drug dispute. General Secretary of the Navodaya People's Front, Chandran Ilayathambi said that maybe the fact that their party developed in Colombo within a short time span was a problem for some politicians. He said that there are attempts to accuse some of the members, but if these accusations are the cause of Krishna's death, it is the duty of the Police to investigate it.
