UPDATE: Fuel prices are to increase with effect from midnight today (July 10). According to Co-cabinet spokesperson Minister (Dr.) Rajitha Senarathne, the price increases (per litre) are as follows;
- 92 Octane Petrol: Increased by Rs. 8
- 95 Octane Petrol: Increased by Rs. 7
- Diesel: Increased by Rs. 9
- Super Diesel: Increased by Rs. 10
The Co-cabinet Spokesperson said fuel prices will be revised on the 10th of every month. The decisions were reached during a special meeting held with President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, this evening.
11 am, July 10: Earlier today (July 10) The Ministry of Petroleum Resources development stated that a special cabinet paper will be submitted today on the prices of petrol and diesel.
Secretary to the Ministry Upali Marasinghe said that a final decision on if the prices of fuel would increase or not will be reached at the Cabinet meeting.
He added that if a proper procedure was followed on determining the prices of fuel such problematic situations could have been avoided.
