Pakistani national arrested for smuggling heroin into the country

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A suspect who attempted to smuggle 4.186 kg of heroin worth over Rs 50 million into the country was taken into custody by Customs at the Bandaranayake International Airport. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the suspect is a Pakistan national and the heroin was stashed in his travelling bag. The suspects had arrived in the country from Lahore, Pakistan at 7.30 this morning. (July 9) Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Police narcotics bureau. Meanwhile, a stock of drugs was also found at a house in Elpitiya. The police raided the house based on a tipoff received. Three suspects were arrested and they are due to be produced before the Elpitiya magistrate's Court today. The arrested suspects are residents of Mount Lavinia.
