COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's media division today issued a statement with regards to The New York Times article. The statement noted that the New York Times newspaper has not published a reply to the allegations sent to them by MP Namal Rajapaksa. It also adds that the New York Times had published Mahinda Rajapaksa’s response as inconspicuously as possible in their latest article. The Statement goes on to say that the New York Times is not fair even to the incumbent President of the United States and that it cannot be expected to be so for the former President of Sri Lanka. This is what the statement carries with regard to the allegation that China Harbour Company had contributed a large sum of money to Former President Rajapaksa’s 2015 presidential election campaign. "As for the money that is supposed to have been given for Former President Rajapaksa’s 2015 presidential election campaign by China Harbour Co, the present government did not suspend the activities of all Chinese Construction companies in Sri Lanka to check on their engineering credentials or their project experience."
