COLOMBO (News 1st) – The construction of a power plant across the Maliboda Ranwala Oya in the Daraniyagala Divisional Secretariat has been temporarily halted following an investigation.

The investigation was conducted by a special team on the allegation that the power plant caused damage to the environment and surrounding property.

The plant is expected to contribute 750 KiloWatts to the area. Local residents are opposed to the construction of the plant due to the pollution.

The Deraniyagala divisional secretariat says they were informed that estate houses situated close to the power plant were damaged due to explosions at the construction site.

With the intervention of the Divisional Secretariat, an investigation was launched into the matter by the officers of the Central Environmental Authority, the National Building Research Organization and a number of other organizations.
