COLOMBO (News 1st) - Postal trade unions said that although the strike action has been temporarily called off, they have now launched a work to rule campaign.

Convener of the trade unions collective Chinthaka Bandara said that the work to rule campaign will continue until authorities fulfil promises made to resolve the issue. The 16-day strike action created a backlog of at least 5 million letters. Chinthaka Bandara said that measures have been taken to distribute these letters expeditiously. A work to rule campaign is an industrial action in which employees do no more than the minimum required by the rules of their contract, and precisely follow all safety or other regulations, which may cause a slowdown or decrease in productivity, as they are no longer working during breaks or during unpaid extended hours and weekends.
