Muslim devotees celebrate the festival of Ramadan

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - Muslim Devotees across the island celebrated the festival of Ramadan today (June 16). The Celebrations focus on devotion and brotherhood. The Ramadan Festival begins after the new moon is cited following the fast conducted during the month of Ramazan. Ramazan is the 9^th month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohamed according to Islamic Belief. This annual observance is regarded as one of the 5 pillars of Islam. Special religious observances were held across the island to mark the Ramadan.
