COLOMBO (News 1st) – The North Western Province Environmental Authority says the granting of the environmental protection license for the Norochcholai coal power plant will be reviewed next week.
A spokesperson for the authority said the review committee of the Norochcholai coal power plant will convene next week and hold discussions regarding the matter.
The issuing of the Environmental Protection license to the Norochcholai coal power plant, by the North Western Province Environmental Authority was stopped mid last year, as a result of the environmental pollution that is caused by the power plant.
The Ministry of Power and Energy says a foundation stone to construct a wind barrier will be laid next week. This will be done as a solution to the existing environmental problems at the plant.
