COLOMBO (News 1st) - A drinking water project in the Papiliyawatta Tsunami Village in the Dodangoda area was vested with the public today (June 10), in line with the 20th Anniversary of Sirasa TV.
More than 300 families in the village were faced with severe issues for many years, due to the lack of clean drinking water. The families had been relocated, in Dodangoda by the Government after the Tsunami disaster in 2004.
Although the water was provided by the Water Board for a period of 30 minutes every day, it was not adequate to fulfil their daily requirements.
Accordingly, following a request made to the Gammadda Secretariat, the water project was completed with funds of the Gammadda Initiative.
Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organisation, Eshini Mudalige, Channel Head of News 1st, Suranga Senanayake, Director/General Manager of News 1st, Yasarath Kamalsiri, Secretary of the Kalutara District, U.D.C. Jayalal and members of the News 1st team were present at the opening ceremony.
