Minister Patali withdraws court case against "Mawbima" newspaper

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has withdrawn the case filed at the Colombo District Court against the "Mawbima" Newspaper. In the case, the Minister demanded a compensation payment of Rs. 1.5 billion saying his character was defamed by two articles published during the election period. Following the case by Min. Patali, "Mawbima" issued a counterclaim which challenged Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka's action. Attorney-at-Law representing the Minister informed the court that his client does not wish to continue the legal action and thereby, requested the permission to withdraw the case. Colombo District Court Judge Pamila Ratnayake granted permission for the case to be withdrawn. Following the withdrawal by min. Patali, President's Counsel Romesh De Silva withdrew the counterclaim on behalf of his client "Mawbima" Newspaper.
