CEA to carry out raids to arrest those using banned polythene products

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Central Environmental Authority is drawing plans to carry out raids with Police assistance to arrest those who use banned polythene products. The Authority says that raids will be carried out from next week. Ajith Weerasundara, the Director of the Environmental Pollution Control Unit said that during the course of this year, 2,700 raids have been carried out to arrest people for manufacturing, selling and using banned polythene products. Legal action has been taken against 150 of them. The use of polythene bags, polythene wrapping, polythene decorations and rigifoam has been banned since September 2017.
