Colombo (News1st) –  The President has instructed the Minister of Finance to inform the relevant institutions in writing not to charge the 14% withholding tax when selling teledramas. The President had issued this instruction this afternoon when artistes representing various unions involved in the teledrama and cinema industries called on him.

The Presidents media division said that the artistes and union representatives raised the issues they face as a result of the revised tax policies of the government. The president had agreed to look into these issues and provide favourable solutions.

The broad programs to be implemented by the government to protect and conserve the local cinema and teledrama industries had also been discussed at the meeting.
