COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 16 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members who defected from the Opposition have revealed their intention to move the SLFP and the UPFA out of the Government.
Addressing a media briefing on Thursday (May 31st) MP S.B Dissanayake who is one of the defectors, noted that the process of reforming the SLFP has begun, adding that they have already given in a proposal to move the party away from the Government.
When questioned were raised regarding whether President Maithripala Sirisena would be running for office once again, MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene reminded those present that the President had said that he would not retire from politics and not that he would run for office once more.
S.B Dissanayake chipped in an said that there are plenty of names floating around as possible presidential candidates including those of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena. He added as the election draws closer names like Dinesh Gunawardene or Wasudeva Nanayakkara could enter the picture.
