COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that holidays of railway employees have been cancelled.
The measure was taken as the Railway Technical Services Trade Union Committee is preparing to launch a 48-hour token strike from 4 p.m. today (May 29).
According to Secretary of the Railway Drivers Association Indika Dodangoda, railway operators, drivers, station masters, railway controllers, supervisory managers and a number of other trade unions are not taking part in this strike action.
Deputy General Manager of Sri Lanka Transport Board H. R. T. Chandrasiri said in order to avoid any inconvenience caused to commuters, the SLTB has taken measures to implement a special bus service.
