Around 400 people with the flu are receiving in-house treatment

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - Southern Province Director General of Health Services, Dr. G Wijesuriya said around 400 patients who have contracted the viral flu that is spreading in the southern province, are receiving in-house treatment. Addressing a media briefing today (May 22), Dr. Wijesuriya said 215 patients in total are receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Matara General Hospital, and Hambantota General Hospital while 185 patients are receiving treatment at provincial hospitals. He noted around 800 additional patients who were receiving in-house treatment, have been discharged from hospitals, after being treated. A specialist team from the Epidemiology Unit has been dispatched to the Southern Province to further investigate the virus. Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jaasinghe said the team left yesterday, to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, the Kamburupitiya and Matara General Hospitals. He added that the team has already reported on the situation after checking the medical condition of patients at those hospitals.
