Police bust illegal cigarettes worth 1.5mn, uncover islandwide racket

Colombo (News1st) - Police in Galewela have uncovered an illegal cigarette smuggling ring following the arrest of 2 persons with a stock of illegal cigarettes worth 1.5 million rupees. The contraband was discovered in a van that was travelling along the Dambulla - Kurunegala main road, based on a tip-off received by the police. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had been operating the illegal racket from Nittambuwa and that they had been operating islandwide. The suspects, the van they were travelling in as well as the stock of cigarettes are due to be produced before the Dambulla magistrates court on Thursday (May 17th)
