Colombo (News1st) - During the recent Mayday celebrations of the United National Party (UNP) Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that the Samurdhi Bank would be brought under the purview of the Central Bank. Two UPFA politicians reacted to this statement today. UPFA Western provincial councilor Jagath Kumara claims that the Government is attempting to loot the Samurdhi because it does not have money. He claimed that the prime minister was responsible for the looting of the Central Bank and that he allowed those who committed this act to escape. Jagath Kumara warned the Prime Minister to keep his hands away from the Samurdhi and remarked that things would take a very bad turn for both the Prime Minister and the Government if they attempt to do so. UPFA Parliamentarian and member of the Joint Opposition group Bandula Gunawarne claims that those who are in favour of the central bank taking control of the samurdhi are ignorant. he added that this government is on its final breath and that it has only 17 months more in office.
