Railway strike called off after Cabinet meeting

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Railway trade unions decided to temporarily call off the strike action that was to be carried out after 12 noon, today (May 9). The Trade unions has decided to call off the strike since the cabinet of ministers agreed to resolve their salary anomalies. Four railway trade unions were planning to carry out an island wide strike action citing anomalies in the salary. Attention was also focused on the CEB Long-term power generation plan, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera commented on the matter as he was leaving the cabinet meeting. He said that the long term power generation plan was discussed and approved. Min. of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa spoke to the media after the cabinet meeting and disputed claims made against him with regard to a plot of land in Ipplogama. While rejecting the allegations against him as baseless, the minister did note that disciplinary action has already been taken against the officials involved in the incident. WATH MORE
