The second phase of the disaster preparedness program jointly organized with the support of the Asia Pacific Alliance on Disaster Management or A-PAD, John Keells Holdings, Nations Trust Bank, District and Divisional Secretariats and the Police Life Saving Unit, commenced today (May 6) with three workshops in the Galle District. The first workshop was held at the Sri Dharmapala Viharaya in Neluwa Galle and saw the participation of a large group of residents who have constantly fallen victim to floods and flash floods. The public was made aware of first aid to be given in the event of an emergency and was also educated on live-saving techniques. A second workshop was held at the Gonapura Community Hall in Baddegama to raise awareness among residents of Baddegama and surrounding areas. At this workshop too, the public was educated on procedures to follow in the event of flooding. The Sri Lanka Country Director of A-PAD Firzan Hashim was also present at the workshop. The workshop was supported by the Sri Lanka Police, local government representatives and members of civil society.
