Warrant re-issued for the arrest of Jaliya Wickramasuriya

COLOMBO (News 1^st ) - An open warrant was issued by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne for the arrest of the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States of America, Jaliya Wickramasuriya. The warrant was issued when the case was called before the Fort Magistrate today (April 24). The Magistrate once again issued warrants for the arrest of Jaliya Wickremesuriya's wife and relative who signed for his bail application. The new warrants were issued after the FCID informed court that the duo were no longer at their places of residence. Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to the United States Wickramasuriya has been charged with criminal misappropriation of 132,000 USD during his tenure as the ambassador. Wickramasuriya, who was arrested earlier on charges of theft, left the country for treatment after obtaining bail from the High Court. The case will be taken up once again on the 24th of May.
