COLOMBO (News 1st) - The national boxing team that took part at the 21st Commonwealth Games returned to the country today (April 16). Sri Lanka was placed 31st in the medals table at the 21st Commonwealth Games that was held at Gold Coast, Australia with a total medals tally of six medals which consisted of one silver and five bronze medals. This was the highest number of medals the country has accumulated at the Commonwealth Games. A special feature was that boxing made the highest contribution to this medal haul with three bronze medals. Anusha Kodithuwakku was the first boxer to win a medal for Sri Lanka since 1950. She also enters the records books as the first female boxer to win a medal for Sri Lanka in the sport.
