Commonwealth Games boxing medalists return to the Island

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - The national boxing team that took part at the 21^st Commonwealth Games returned to the country today (April 16). Sri Lanka was placed 31^st in the medals table at the 21^st Commonwealth Games that was held at Gold Coast, Australia with a total medals tally of six medals which consisted of one silver and five bronze medals. This was the highest number of medals the country has accumulated at the Commonwealth Games. A special feature was that boxing made the highest contribution to this medal haul with three bronze medals. Anusha Kodithuwakku was the first boxer to win a medal for Sri Lanka since 1950. She also enters the records books as the first female boxer to win a medal for Sri Lanka in the sport.
