COLOMBO (News 1st) – An almsgiving was held today (April 15th) in remembrance of the victims of the Meethotamulla Garbage Dump tragedy, marking one year since the incident that shocked the country.
The people of Meethotamulla took to the streets on more than one occasion to protest the dumping of waste here.
While their pleas fell on deaf ears, authorities only took serious note of the garbage problem, when the mountain of waste imploded, claiming 32 lives on the 14th of April 2017.
