COLOMBO (News 1st) – All spill gates of the Udawalawa reservoiir have been opened. Deputy Director of Mahaweli Authority Sujeewa Gunasekara confirmed that all spill gates were opened around 10 am today (15 April) as the reservoir was reaching spill level.
Gunasekara requested those living on the banks of the Walawe river and those using the Walawe river to excercise caution as the opening of the spill grates could result in the sudden rise of water levels in the river.
The deputy director also requests the drivers to avoid driving heavy vehicles over to the Udawalawe reservoir’s dam and to use alternative routes.
