Inclement weather backs hydropower generation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board, K. Samarasinghe said due to current rainy weather condition, hydropower generation has increased by 10 %. He further said the government is taking efforts to increase hydropower generation in order to maintain a balance in the national grid. The General Manager of the CEB also assured consumers that they will provide an uninterrupted service during the festive season. He added that one generator of the Norochcholai coal power plant, that produces 300MW of electricity, will undergo repairs as it has been releasing a grey coloured substance into the sea for fourty days According to an engineer of the Norochcholai coal power plant, measures will be taken to cool off the generator using the sea water.
