University non-academic staff strike to be called off today if demands are met

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to discussions held yesterday (April 2), strike actions launched by university non-academic staff will be called off if the demands are fulfilled through the issuance of a circular today (April 3), the University Joint Trade Union Committee says. It's Joint Chairman, Edward Malwattage, said the above decision was reached subsequent to a committee discussion yesterday (April 2). However, the strike action will continue until the circular is issued. He further noted, an agreement was reached for a favourable solution based on discussions held between non-academic staff, Minister Kabir Hashim, Chairman of the University Grants Commission and the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education.
