Australian Cricket captain Steve Smith and batsman Cameron Bancroft have been accused of ball tampering on day three of the 3rd test cricket match played in Cape Town.

The match referee Andy Pycroft charged Cameron Bancroft with a Level 2 offense of attempting to alter the condition of the ball. Bancroft has accepted that he tampered the ball and is facing the possible sentence of a test match ban and a fine of his match fee. Additionally, he may be awarded up to four dermit points.

During a press conference, the Australian captain said that he is embarrassed about the incident. He went on to say that it was the team leadership idea to tamper the ball and the coaches were not aware of the plan.

Steve Smith said that he would take the full responsibility as the captain of the team, however, he would not step down from the captaincy.
