After reports of Cambridge Analytica using Facebook’s user information came to light, people across social media have begun to urge others to either #DeleteFacebook or #BoycottFacebook in response.
Co-founder of Whatsapp Brian Acton has joined this movement.
He published a tweet saying: “It is time. #deletefacebook.”
Acton left the company in 2017, three years after Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19bn (£11.4bn at the then exchange rates) in 2014.
The tweet came after a bruising five-day period for Facebook that has seen regulators swarm and its stock price plunge following concerns over data privacy in the wake of revelations about Cambridge Analytica’s misuse of user data.
