COLOMBO (News 1st) - In light of the unrest which transpired in Digana, Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake warns that there are attempts by certain political groups to ignite communal clashes in the Colombo District as well.
The MP made this statement speaking to reporters at an event held in Colombo today (March 10).
“I honestly thank everyone in the Colombo District today. There were cheap attempts by a few of those in the opposition and even in the ruling party to spread extremism. There were attempts to cover them as well.” - MP Ravi Karunanyake
He stated that those attempts were condemned by the people, for that he stated that they are very thankful
Furthermore, he stated that may it be the United National Party or the Opposition who are involved in this, but if they are doing this to gain temporary pleasure in politics, he said that he calls on the people to take action against it.
“The issue with us sometimes is that we don't take direct decisions.” - MP Ravi Karunanyake
Journalists also questioned the MP about Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka not being given the position of Minister of Law and Order.
Responding to the question he stated the following.
“Failing to recognize skill and talent seems to be the order of the day since late. But we have to use people like Sarath Fonseka. Cornering them is not what the country's development needs.”
