Madushanka Fernando wins 19th Air Force Cycle Race

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Madushanka Fernando of the Sri Lanka Airforce clinched victory in the 19th Air Force Cycle Race, which concluded today (March 4). The event was held in line with the 67th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Airforce, Sports1st and the champion network were the media sponsors of the event. The race which consisted of three stages witnessed the participation of over 170 participants both local and foreign. The 150km long final stage of the race which was from Polonnaruwa to Ampara was won by Samantha Lakmal of the Sri Lanka air force with a time of 3 hours 36 minutes and 5 seconds. The Overall victory was clinched by Madushanka Fernando of the Sri Lanka airforce who clocked in a time of 10 hours 45 minutes and 8 seconds. His brother Darshana Fernando of the Sri Lanka navy finished the grueling 440 km race in second place, 7 seconds behind while Nishantha Perera of the Dehiwala-Mt Lavinia Municipal Council team came in 3rd. The honours of the team event were also clinched by the Sri Lanka airforce. Sri Lanka Navy and the Dehiwala-Mt Lavinia Municipal Council team completed the podium.
