Law and Order Ministry for PM is temporary: Rajitha Senaratne

Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne claims that the Ministry of Law and Order has been entrusted to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe only for two weeks, following which Field Marshal Minister Sarath Fonseka, will be sworn into the position. A media release issued by the Ministry of Health states that Minister Senaratne made these comments during a meeting held at the Ministry. The statement also reads that the minister had noted that while senior police officers are not in favour of the appointment of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, the move is supported by junior officers. He had also noted that the cabinet cannot be appointed according to the wishes of ministers and MPs. Furthermore, responding to the former president's jibe that the cabinet reshuffle was a joke, Senaratne had said the reshuffle was used to tame ministers who had criticised the government in the recent past.
