Final rites for Ramanya Sect Anu Nayake to be held this week

COLOMBO (News1st): Final rites of the Anu Nayaka of the Sri Ramanya Maha Nikaya, Venerable Girabe Ananda Thero, has been scheduled to be held on February 24 under full state patronage. Hence, the final rites are to be held at the Walisinghe Harischandra stadium in Anuradhapura. The Venerable Thero, who was the Parivenadipathi of the Sri Sarananda Pirivena in Anuradhapura, contributed greatly to sustain of the Sasana. The Vernerable Thero, who was admitted to the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, was 80-years-old at the time of his demise. The Venerable Thero is known for his efforts in improving both the standards of the Sasana and the education sphere in the country. He took a lead role in ordaining a large number of young monks and was revered in all spheres. The procession, which carried the remains of the venerable thero, left from the private funeral parlour in Colombo and arrived at the Perdeniya Sri Sarananda Pirivena. The procession is set to travel from Peradeniya to Anuradhapura this afternoon.
