Sri Lanka is a multi-ethnic
country
which has people of multiple religions living together in peace and harmony.
However, there is one thing which is almost like a religion for all Sri Lankans in common. That is none other-than Cricket.
Finding a Sri Lankan who is not a cricket fan is as hard as finding a pin in sand.
The longest running cricket match
Many believe that 'The Ashes' is the oldest running cricket event in the world. You can't really blame them for believing it since it's an international cricket match which has been played since 1882, for 137 years.
Though The Ashes is played between Australia and England, the founder of the game, this is not the longest running event.
It is in-fact the Battle of The Blues between Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia which claim the title of the longest running cricket event in the world.
The Battle of The Blues, also known as the Royal-Thomian is currently on the 139th consecutive year.
This three-day match draws a crowd in the tens of thousands. This year, the two schools go head to head on March 8, at the SSC grounds, Colombo.
The Battle of the Blues has been won by Royal College on 35 occasions and S. Thomas' College on 34 occasions.
