COLOMBO (News1st) – It is reported that Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has not yet returned to the country, even after being summoned to make a statement to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
He was named as a suspect in the bond scam and failed to make any statement to the CID yesterday, as ordered.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the former Central Bank Governor to make a statement to the CID before February 15. The order was issued via the Interpol.
When News1st made inquiries, Attorney General Jayantha Jayasooriya said steps will be taken if Arjuna Mahendran failed to return to the country before the due date.
He said strict legal action will be taken to bring the gormer governor to the country, after reporting facts to the court
Meanwhile, the case against the owner of Perpetual Treasuries Ltd, Arjuna Aloysius, and its CEO Kasun Palisena who remain in remand custody, will be called again today.
