President Sirisena confirms decision that PM should step down: BBC

BBC Sinhala news service reports that President Maithripala Sirisena has confirmed the decision of the SLFP members that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should resign from his position. Quoting a minister of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party the BBC reports, the president has informed the United National Party to appoint a member from the party as the new prime minister. The report notes that calls have come in from within the party for the resignation of the Premier Wickremesinghe from the leadership of the party and the appointment of Sajith Premadasa or Karu Jayasuriya to the position. The United Natioal party had allegedly made a statement that they will establish a single government with the help of members from the Sri Lanka Freedom party. The president, responding to this statement said, he will not allow members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to do so.
