After months of waiting, the parliament debate on the reports compiled by the Presidential Commissions of Inquiry on the Issuance of Treasury Bonds and Serious Acts of Fraud and Corruption took place today, Tuesday February 6. The proposal was put forward by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. According to the Premier, there is an intention to amend a few laws relating to the Central Bank. "The intention to bring forth a new act for the Central Bank since 2016 was to restructure the bank through a Monetary Act. Parliament is entrusted with the task of Financial control," he said. However, just as it was bound to happen, the debate took interesting turns.
