Over one hundred houses located within the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretariat have been damaged after gale force winds swept across the area during a heavy downpour, yesterday, January 12.

Assistant Director of the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat, Ajith Nishantha, said a team from the armed forces have joined in the relief efforts. Meanwhile, the Electricity Board says power supply to over 500 consumers has been hampered by bad weather. Spokesperson, Sulakshana Jayawardena, said efforts are underway to restore power to the areas affected, adding that they hope to restore power by January 13 night.

The Met Department forecast says several spells of showers will occur in North Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and in tbe Hambantota District. Showers or thundershowers will occur over several places elsewhere after 2 p.m. with fairly heavy showers (exceeding 50 mm) expected particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
