Several state entities poised to strike despite Elections Commission request

Number of state entities have launched a strike action, defying the request made by the Elections Commission to refrain from all forms of protest during the moratorium period of the local government polls.

Government doctors, employees of the Water Resources Board and locomotive engineers of the Department of Railways have launched the strike action.

Secretary to the GMOA, Dr. Nalinda Herath, says the medical officers will refrain from their duties from 8 a.m. today, centering on a number of demands while, the trade union collective of the Water Resources Board would do the same by refraining from work for four hours, starting at 9 a.m. today.
